GO GREEN 06/17/2009

Not much green left in my wallet after my trip to NY for wedding-related shopping. Mother of the bride is, I am learning, an unbelievably costly role. The weather was yucky, the city was packed. I did not get to go to my favorite place in the city, the NY Public Library on 42nd and 5th. You could lock me in there. I love it so much. But every cloud has a silver lining, and the platinum lining was my visit to a very special person. A pilgrimage really, because I try to do this one at least once each year.

This Sunday, Elinor Penna again graciously allowed me to play with her impressive stock for much of the day. Elinor is an incredible resource because her knowledge spans the entire 19th century. And it goes beyond figures to include Sunderland luster, barge ware, glass pictures, and a host of other antique treasures. To see it all under one roof is a true learning experience. Elinor herself is equally amazing--and she loves all figures with a passion. Her clever new slogan for bocage figures is GO GREEN. Isn't that catchy? So let's all GO GREEN and add to our collections. And below is a sampling from Elinor's stock.

Hi: re: visit to Eleanor Penna: Did you happen to notice any one figure in the square plinth, Elements group? I have a beautiful "Fire" and would like the other three some day. I did email her including a picture but think my email address might look like spam as I haven't gotten a reply. The connection to the olde medical 'humours' would be interesting w/ photos of The Elements (choleric, sanguine, melancholic, phlegmatic) & (air, earth, water, fire....forget which goes w/ which. Book material?
