                                          20thC Figures marked WALTON.

These figures--even when marked WALTON-- were not made by John Walton, the early 19thC Staffordshire figure potter. They were produced into the latter part of the 20thC.  Later figures are recognized by their whiter bodies, shoddy modelling, the lack of a blue-tinted glaze, and the form of the script. Letters most usually (but not always) lack serifs.

To hold an early figure is to touch the past.
